Looking for someone who can secure building permits for construction companies and architectural firms. They coordinate the approval process by reviewing blueprints and documents, ensuring zoning and building code compliance, filing for approvals, and performing other essential functions of the job. Many work hours might be spent sitting at a desk.
Strong communication and leadership skills; abilities to multitask, solve problems, meet deadlines, and make presentations; knowledge of base architectural systems and schedules, structural systems, electrical systems, local building codes, and construction laws and regulations; ability to read blueprints; comfortable using database, spreadsheet, word processing, and industry-related software.
As a permit runner, you help manage paperwork during the permitting process. This frequently involves helping drop off or pick up paperwork from city/county offices, reviewing materials, reviewing permits to ensure they meet all submission requirements, and interacting with both city and project staff to help advance approvals. Permit runners often process several permits each day, sometimes for different projects, and stay in constant contact with project teams to better estimate when each permit is needed.
